Hamburger Pie complete!

So of course as luck would have it, I did my third and final attempt and what happens? My phone breaks...so I don't have any pictures this week which is annoying. Hopefully when I go to ATT&T they can take my pictures off but as of right now the outlooks doesn't look great but, I'm going to try my best to be descriptive as to how the final result turned out.

So the ingredients we used this week were:
½ cup chopped yellow onion
1 and ½ lb ground beef
Salt
1 can cream corn
1 can condensed tomato soup
8 small/medium sized russet potatoes
½ cup 2% milk
1 egg
1 packet of brown gravy
and........
1 cup of shredded sharp cheddar cheese!!!

As with last week I did the potatoes first but then half way through I ended up cooking up the burger and I think I have the timing pretty spot on which is nice. Since when I first made this it literally took me about an hour and half to make this meal! Partially it was being lazy and another part was I didn't realize how long it would take my stove to cook the potatoes so I think now I have found a good medium to work with.
I also wanted to mention that in the recipe, the person who posted it mentions nothing about draining the burger grease, I myself do drain it because, it's kind of gross to me but I suppose that you could keep it in there but I don't believe that draining the grease makes the taste any less tasty, just figured I'd put that out there.
Anyways, to the good part, about the cheese! I didn't add the shredded cheese on top until about 15 minutes before it was done, I figured that it would melt nicely and not burn, (and luckily I was right!) I think the cheese on top completes this meal, I used sharp cheddar but I think any cheese would really do, it all should add a nice crust like topping to your meal and cheese is always a ingredient in my book! After all this, I definitely think this will be a once or twice a month thing, even though I have perfected it, it still is a lot of work to peal the potatoes, cut them, wait for the water to boil, etc. Although, I am proud of myself for going outside my comfort zone and attempting something I've always wanted to attempt but never really had the drive to do until now. So until next time......

Hamburger Pie, take 2!

So this week I made hamburger pie again except I added some changes this week, this week I ended up adding some brown gravy to the hamburger which gave it some awesome flavor and made it a whole lot less bland. Also I added some cream corn instead of corn, since my boyfriend mentioned that the meal last week was a little dry and using the cream corn most definitely helped the whole dry factor and worked out well. For this coming week I plan on adding some shredded cheddar cheese on top of it, and I think that doing that will make this meal complete! Anyways, enjoy the pictures!

The ingredients in this picture aren't all there, (or are not going to used this week because I changed my mind!) but here's a list!
½ cup chopped yellow onion, I know that the recipe calls for a whole onion but it was a battle just to get my boyfriend to agree with a ½ cup!
1 and ½ lb ground beef, (my boyfriend is a pretty big dude and wanted a little more than just a 1lb.)
Salt, (my boyfriend is not a fan of pepper!),
1 can cream corn,
1 can condensed tomato soup,
8 small/medium sized russet potatoes,
½ cup 2% milk,
1 egg,
1 packet of brown gravy.
Started with boiling the potatoes again but this time, when they were finally at a good boil, I started the hamburger part of the recipe since last time the timing was a bit off.
Here's a picture of me adding the packet of brown gravy to the mix!
Here's a picture of me adding the can of cream corn after the brown gravy was mixed into the hamburger.
This is what the mix looked like when it was all finally combined together before putting it into the pan.
This is what it looked like before it went into the oven, I noticed that this week, even though the cream corn was a pretty awesome ingredient to add, it made it kind of difficult to spread the potatoes over the top without everything wanting to stick together!
Here's the end result, if you notice the brown gravy kind of “cooked” itself and seeped through the top of the potatoes. Looks kind of strange but the over all result was good! I'm glad I added some more flavorful ingredients to the mix, once this is all done, (including the shredded cheddar cheese that will be added next week!) this will probably become a once a week staple in my house since this is so easy to make and I always have plenty of left overs too which is always a plus in my book!

Hope everyone enjoyed my post, can't wait to finally perfect this meal next week with the shredded cheddar cheese! ~Katie

Hamburger Pie Take 2 this weekend!

Just wanted to let everyone know that I plan on attempting this recipe again this weekend but adding some new ingredients to the mix this time! This weekend I plan on adding some brown gravy to the hamburger it self, adding some cream corn instead of corn (my boyfriend later mentioned it was a little dry), and some shredded cheddar cheese on top of the mashed potatoes (probably like 15 minutes before its done). Just wanted to keep you all updated!

Hamburger Pie Success!

So, I ended up making Hamburger Pie like I said I would and it was pretty good, I mean the original recipe is a pretty bland one. I think when I make this again I will definitely end up making a couple changes to this recipe. Next time I'm thinking about adding some cheddar cheese to the top of the mashed potatoes and maybe some brown gravy mix to the hamburger meat to add a bit more flavor to the meat itself. Anyways, here's some pictures that I took, (sorry the only camera I have is on my phone so bare with the fail quality!), over all I would definitely recommend this recipe to those of you who are interested in making something that I consider is almost like a “Shepard's Pie”. Well Enjoy!

So these were all the ingredients I used, except my boyfriend fought me on the green beans so whole kernel corn won this time instead!

I started off by doing the potato part of the recipe, since my stove takes forever to cook the potatoes!
This is the, onion, burger, corn, and condensed tomato soup mixture, looks kinda gross but I assure you it was yummy :)!
This was what it looked like before it went into the oven, kinda looked like icing on a cake to me hehe.
Here's the finished product, messy but overall really tasty!

Again for those of you who were interested in all the ingredients and such here's the link again, <http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Hamburger-Pie-101433>

A preview of what is to come....

Hi there everyone,

I'm not a big "blogger", I like to kind of keep to myself but I do enjoy cooking quite a bit. I will try my best to be as creative and descriptive as I can be, but like I said I'm not use to this kind of opening up so please bare with me!
The recipe I'm going to attempt to make is something I've always wanted to make but I would never find a simple enough recipe, but now I have and it's something called "Hamburger Pie", I am going to add the link below for anyone who is interested. I think this recipe sound REALLY yummy and it's something my picky boyfriend should enjoy as well! I plan on attempting this, this weekend the 16th, so keep an eye out for my post and some pictures as well and hopefully I don't burn the house down ;)
