Hamburger Pie, take 2!

So this week I made hamburger pie again except I added some changes this week, this week I ended up adding some brown gravy to the hamburger which gave it some awesome flavor and made it a whole lot less bland. Also I added some cream corn instead of corn, since my boyfriend mentioned that the meal last week was a little dry and using the cream corn most definitely helped the whole dry factor and worked out well. For this coming week I plan on adding some shredded cheddar cheese on top of it, and I think that doing that will make this meal complete! Anyways, enjoy the pictures!

The ingredients in this picture aren't all there, (or are not going to used this week because I changed my mind!) but here's a list!
½ cup chopped yellow onion, I know that the recipe calls for a whole onion but it was a battle just to get my boyfriend to agree with a ½ cup!
1 and ½ lb ground beef, (my boyfriend is a pretty big dude and wanted a little more than just a 1lb.)
Salt, (my boyfriend is not a fan of pepper!),
1 can cream corn,
1 can condensed tomato soup,
8 small/medium sized russet potatoes,
½ cup 2% milk,
1 egg,
1 packet of brown gravy.
Started with boiling the potatoes again but this time, when they were finally at a good boil, I started the hamburger part of the recipe since last time the timing was a bit off.
Here's a picture of me adding the packet of brown gravy to the mix!
Here's a picture of me adding the can of cream corn after the brown gravy was mixed into the hamburger.
This is what the mix looked like when it was all finally combined together before putting it into the pan.
This is what it looked like before it went into the oven, I noticed that this week, even though the cream corn was a pretty awesome ingredient to add, it made it kind of difficult to spread the potatoes over the top without everything wanting to stick together!
Here's the end result, if you notice the brown gravy kind of “cooked” itself and seeped through the top of the potatoes. Looks kind of strange but the over all result was good! I'm glad I added some more flavorful ingredients to the mix, once this is all done, (including the shredded cheddar cheese that will be added next week!) this will probably become a once a week staple in my house since this is so easy to make and I always have plenty of left overs too which is always a plus in my book!

Hope everyone enjoyed my post, can't wait to finally perfect this meal next week with the shredded cheddar cheese! ~Katie

  1. Hi Katie. This looks great. I too am a fan of leftovers (helps with lunches during the week). I had never thought to mix the corn in with the burger, I had always layered it. I will have to try this method. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Hi Deb, I think you will find that mixing vs. layering is a lot easier and it doesn't ruin the taste :)
